Player ratings for Socceroos' 1-1 World Cup draw with Ghana:

MARK SCHWARZER: Right back to his best as Australia's defence got its mojo back. One great first half save, two more in the second. Nothing he could do about penalty. Rating: 8.

LUKE WILKSHIRE: Mixed bag. Perhaps at fault for the goal in not dealing with threat on right which led to penalty. Worked guts out when reduced to 10 men, then squandered chance to net winner. Rating: 8.

CRAIG MOORE: Commanding at the back and fought off attack after attack as Australia battled a man down. Caught napping as Ghana launched attack which led to penalty. Rating: 7.

LUCAS NEILL: As brilliant as he was poor against Germany. Didn't put a foot wrong either repelling attacks or playing ball out of danger areas. A real captain's game. Rating: 9.

DAVID CARNEY: Surprise selection, and oh, what a pleasant surprise. Solid defensively and gave Ghana no change at all on his watch. Rating: 7.

JASON CULINA: Uncharacteristically coughed up possession a few times in first half, but solid when he needed to be in second. Rating: 6.

CARL VALERI: Didn't do anything wrong and held his own in a match where he was only really asked to play linkman with a feisty Socceroos attack. Rating: 6.

BRETT EMERTON: Bit of a nomad after team was reduced to 10 men, shuffled between right attacking midfield and right back. Okay without being outstanding. Rating: 6.

BRETT HOLMAN: Socceroos' equivalent of a couple of caffeine-laced energy drinks. Scored goal, worked hard in No.10's role, then put in double-shift as lone striker. Surely time for the Brett Holman Is A Joke Facebook page to disappear. Now. Rating: 8.

MARK BRESCIANO: Took clever free-kick which led to goal and buzzed around busily throughout - with mixed impact - to give Holman the support he needed. Rating: 7.

HARRY KEWELL: Just 25 minutes, little impact, and a red card - probably harsh. So much drama, so little recent football. Rating: 5.

Substitutes:

SCOTT CHIPPERFIELD: Excellent when brought on in attacking role - the position he actually made his name. Added energy, created some good chances. Verbeek's best tactical move. Rating: 8.

JOSH KENNEDY: Put himself about when coming on for Holman, reinforcing that perhaps his best work for his country is as an impact player. Rating: 6.

NIKITA RUKAVYTSYA: Late replacement for Wilkshire. No rating.
