Kewell send off referee goes home

The referee who sent off Harry Kewell in the Socceroos' match against Ghana is one of four referees who were sent home from the World Cup on Tuesday.

Italian Roberto Rosetti was one of those who didn't make the cut for the remainder of the tournament.

Rosetti was also the referee who allowed a goal by Argentina's Carlos Tevez against Mexico, when he was clearly offside.

He gave Kewell a red card during Australia's must-win match against Ghana, ruling the Socceroos star stopped a Ghanian shot on goal with his arm.

Other referees who found themselves at the centre of embarrassing blunders were also relieved of duty.

Uruguay's Jorge Larrionda, the man who missed Frank Lampard's 'goal' in England's 4-1 defeat to Germany, is on the hit-list.

France's Stephane Lannoy and Koman Coulibaly of Mali also missed out on the list of 19 referees released by FIFA to officiate from the quarter-finals onwards.

Lannoy missed the double handball of Brazil striker Luis Fabiano in the build-up to his goal against Ivory Coast while Coulibaly disallowed Maurice Edu's late strike which would have given the USA a 3-2 win over Slovenia.
