Nathan Sharpe has been ruled out of the Wallabies' Test against Ireland in Brisbane on Saturday due to a back injury.

Brumbies second rower Mark Chisholm will take 32-year-old Sharpe's place in the Australian starting line-up, allowing Mitchell Chapman to win inclusion on the bench.

"(Sharpe) suffered a twinge in his lower back during Tuesday's training session," an ARU Spokesman said.

"The injury hasn't responded to treatment in the time since, forcing the 82-Test veteran to pull out of the team."

Chapman started off his Super Rugby career in Brisbane with the Queensland Reds in 2005 before switching to the Brumbies three seasons later, recently ran out for the Australian Barbarians.
