South Sydney pair John Sutton and Nathan Merritt have signed new deals that will keep them at the NRL club until the end of the 2014 season.

Merritt, 27, is one of three players still at the club after playing in the Rabbitohs' re-instatement season in 2002. The speedster has scored over 100 tries in the process.

Sutton was widely thought to be on his way out of the club, but the decision to announce Michael Maguire as coach from the start of next season, has seen the local junior extend his stay.

Rabbitohs chief executive Shane Richardson was delighted to have kept the pair and said he was proud to reward players that have come through the club's junior's.

"Nathan and John have been mainstays of our NRL side for many seasons and were proud to be able to make them both 10-year players at our club with these contract extensions," Richardson said.

"Nathan has a fantastic try-scoring record, in the top five of all time at this famous club.

"John has sublime skills and has performed strongly at five-eighth, lock and centre for us over the past seven seasons.

"These guys are products of the South Sydney juniors and were pleased to have them in our squad."

Merritt, who had a stint at Cronulla earlier in his career, says he could not see himself leaving Souths again.

"South Sydney is my home. It is the club I've dreamt about playing for since I was a kid," he said.

"I'm proud to represent this club and the district each week."

Sutton admitted he was relieved to have secured his future after speculation linking him with moves to the English Super League and the Sharks.

"I'm really happy to have my contract sorted and to know I'll be at Souths for the next three years," Sutton said.

"I love the club, my family loves the club, and I can't imagine playing anywhere else."

Meanwhile, The Nine Network have reported Parramatta are attempting to lure halfback Chris Sandow away from Redfern with a big money deal.
