Ioane to face Super Rugby judiciary

Queensland Reds star Digby Ioane faces a judiciary hearing after being charged by Super Rugby organisers over his refereeing comment on twitter.

Ioane tweeted "the worst ref ever" after the Reds' 28-26 Super Rugby loss to the Hurricanes in controversial circumstances in Wellington on Saturday night.

The match was controlled by New Zealand referee Keith Brown.

A repentant Ioane later apologised, took down the post and reportedly quit using twitter.

But it didn't stop governing body SANZAR charging him on Tuesday with breaching its code of conduct by publicly criticising a referee's performance.

He faces a hearing to be chaired by SANZAR judicial officer Nigel Hampton QC via teleconference on Wednesday at 5pm AEST.
