Moloney back as Demons' vice-captain

Melbourne midfielder Brent Moloney has been reinstated as vice-captain of the AFL club, after being dumped from the position earlier this year for disciplinary reasons.

Moloney was stripped of the role by his fellow members of the Demons' leadership group in April, after being ejected from a nightclub during a late-night drinking session.

He said at the time he had a problem with binge drinking.

But after showing strong form since that demotion, Moloney was reinstated on Tuesday.

He first met with Melbourne's leadership group, before a vote by the entire playing squad confirmed his return to his former post.

"Obviously I'm really happy to be back as vice-captain of the footy club that I love," Moloney told the Nine Network's AFL Footy Show on Thursday night.

He vowed to keep out of trouble.

"I promise you right now, I can promise all the Melbourne supporters out there that nothing like this will happen ever again," he said of the incident which cost him the leadership position.

Moloney said he had been receiving counselling through the AFL players' association.
