Moon set to head for English Super League

Warriors utility Joel Moon is set to quit the NRL at the end of the season and join English club Salford.

The 23-year-old Queenslander is coming off contract after three up-and-down seasons in Auckland and was not in the Warriors' plans for next year.

He tweeted on Tuesday that he had reached an agreement with Super League club Salford and later told NZPA he expected to put pen to paper over the coming week.

The deal was expected to be for at least two years and he would get to play in his preferred position of five-eighth.

Moon made his NRL debut with Brisbane in 2006 and has a total of 77 first-grade appearances, 46 of them for the Warriors.

While the Warriors have used him at five-eighth, he has most recently been operating at centre.

This season has been a particularly frustrating one for him.

He was among players dropped after the Warriors started their campaign with three successive losses.

He then had to bide his time turning out for the Auckland Vulcans in the NSW Cup before being reinstated to first grade last month after Lewis Brown suffered an ankle injury.

Despite not being wanted by the Warriors next season, Moon has shown good form in his three matches back, scoring three tries to help the club extend their winning streak to four and consolidate sixth spot on the ladder.
