Lions to recall Rich for Magpies

Highly-rated Brisbane midfielder Daniel Rich is set for a recall for the clash with AFL giants Collingwood at the MCG next Saturday.

Rich, who has recovered from a foot stress fracture, proved his fitness in the reserves to raise a smile from coach Michael Voss.

"He's had enough training now to bring him back," Voss said.

Rich's booming left foot kick will go someway towards the Lions trying to break down the Magpies renowned defensive press.

The Lions head to Melbourne with some confidence after a 10-goal win over the Gold Coast Suns at the Gabba on Saturday night.

It was only the fourth win of the season yet Voss was pleased with the way his side won rather than the convincing margin.

"I thought it was a really even team performance and there was plenty of players who stepped up to the plate to be a part of the team," Voss said.

Gold Coast coach Guy McKenna had few kind words for his men and flagged major changes for the clash with Adelaide at Metricon Stadium on Saturday.

He lambasted a lack of effort after he gave them two days off during the week to freshen up for the Lions but that failed to have the desired effect.

"It's difficult to manufacture something when there's no effort and that was the biggest thing out of tonight," McKenna said.

"You can look at it being a long season and boys playing men and all those kind of things. I think we've tried to manage them as best we can."

Code-hopping defender Karmichael Hunt is on the verge of another recall after a strong display in the reserves and nimble forward Brandon Matera was also flagged for a call-up.

McKenna alluded to a number of changes after being clearly disappointed with their lack of run, especially in the last term when the Lions piled on eight goals after only kicking 10 in the first three quarters.

"He (Hunt) was impressive and certainly running across the ground," McKenna said.

"Anyone that was running across the ground (inthe seconds) - Brandon Matera, Luke Russell has done really well, Tom Hickey in the ruck - we've got some boys ready and willing to step up and some blokes that haven't had an opportunity will get an opportunity as well.

"If blokes aren't going to have an effort we have to get some players in there that are going to do so."
