Slovakian-born Jarmila Gajdosova has dug deep to claim a wildcard into the main draw of the Australian Women's Hardcourt tennis tournament on the Gold Coast.

Gajdosova - who recently received resident status in Australia - cruised past an injured Sophie Ferguson in the first round of the wildcard playoffs before receiving a scare against fellow Sydney-sider Monique Adamczak in the final.

The world No.142 came back from 5-2 down in the first set to win it 7-5 but lost the second 6-3.

She took the match by winning a tiebreak 10-5.

Gajdosova - who is awaiting Australian citizenship - led 6-3 2-1 against Ferguson before her first round rival pulled out with a left knee injury.

Ferguson had won the past two wildcard playoffs at the Royal Pines resort.

"Sophie played well. I didn't know she was injured until she pretty much told me that, but it was a good match," Gajdosova said.

"It was unfortunate that she had to pull out so we couldn't finish it. But I was happy I won it."

Adamczak defeated Victorian Christina Wheeler 6-2 3-6 (10-6 tiebreaker) in the first round before facing Gajdosova.

"I made a lot of unforced errors because I haven't played for nine weeks (due to a leg injury)," Gajdosova said.

Gajdosova's best performance at the Women's Hardcourt was in 2006, when she won through qualifying to the round of 16 before losing to eventual champion, Czech Lucie Safarova in three sets.

"I like this tournament and the centre court and I'm looking forward to being in the main draw here again," she said.

Adamczak was awarded the last remaining wildcard into the main draw for reaching the final.

The main draw begins on Sunday.

World No.12, Czech Nicole Vaidisova, 18, is the top seed in the last Gold Coast event before it becomes part of Brisbane's combined men's and women's event at the new state tennis centre in January 2009.
