Parramatta striker Saso Petrovski turned Newcastle's hopes into a nightmare with a second half destruction as the Power stormed to a 4-0 victory at Parramatta Stadium.

Petrovski scored twice and provided the final touches, which led to the other goals from Travis Dodd and Ante Milicic.

It was the best result Parramatta has had over Newcastle in the National Soccer League with their previous biggest effort a 2-0 win.

After a scoreless first half, Parramatta swamped Newcastle, scoring two goals in five minutes to shatter the opposition.

"But it was demoralising turning up to play before a poor crowd," Parramatta coach Nick Theodorakopoulos said.

"The league is good and Parramatta is a world class football stadium."

Petrovski, who only joined the team a few weeks ago, had a moderate game in the first half but tore the opposition to shreds in the second session.

"It's easy for players to walk into this team and fit in. My first goal tonight was a funny looping ball and I just stuck my leg out," he said.

Newcastle matched Parramatta for speed in the opening session but were unable to equal the Power's scoring chances.

Both teams were having difficulty keeping their feet on the playing surface and slips spoiled a number of promising moves.
