Waterhouse to fight Origin punch charge

NSW forward Trent Waterhouse is contesting his contrary conduct charge from Wednesday night's State of Origin match.

The Penrith star became the first Blues player to be sent off in Origin history after hitting the unconscious Steve Price following the Maroon veteran's punch-up with NSW prop Brett White.

Waterhouse is facing a one-match ban if found guilty, meaning he would miss Saturday's NRL match against Canberra.

North Queensland's Johnathan Thurston, reported for making dangerous contact with David Williams' head as the Blues winger scored a try in the first half, took the early plea on Wednesday night and is clear to play against the Tigers on Sunday.

Waterhouse's case will be heard at the NRL headquarters at 6pm on Thursday night.
