Former Canberra stars Andrew McFadden and Quentin Pongia have been promoted to assistant coaching positions at the NRL club.

McFadden and Pongia replace Ian Millward, who cut his time at the Raiders short to return to the UK and coach English second-tier club Leigh Centurions, as David Furner's right-hand men.

Pongia had been a conditioner at Canberra, while McFadden was the under-20s coach.

"When it comes to coaching, I don't think you can substitute for people that have been in the game and played at the highest level, especially when the guys are from the same club and share the same passion for the Raiders," Pongia said in a statement.
