Central Coast goalkeeper Danny Vukovic was Monday night handed a 15-month suspension, with six months suspended on a probationary basis, after he was found guilty of violent conduct in Sunday night's A-League grand final.

Vukovic received a red card in the dying minutes of the Mariners' 1-0 loss to Newcastle at the Sydney Football Stadium for striking referee Mark Shield.

Football Federation Australia announced the suspension after the A-League's match review panel concluded a day-long meeting.

The suspension means Vukovic will not be eligible to play in the A-League until November 24, and if he re-offends in the following year, the suspended six months of his suspension will be activated.

Vukovic's chances of representing Australia at this year's Olympics are also under threat with the FFA "considering the extension of the sanction beyond the A-League, including to national team duty."

He was an regular member of the Olyroos team during last year's successful qualification campaign.

Vukovic has seven days in which to appeal the decision.
