Bird caged for one match

Australia stand-off Greg Bird will miss Catalans Dragons' English Super League match against Salford on Friday after being handed a one-match ban.

Bird was given the suspension, along with a STG300 ($A603) fine, after being found guilty of a reckless tackle on Celtic Crusaders prop Ryan O'Hara in the last minute of the Dragons' 34-0 win in Perpignan on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Bird will discover later this week if he will be available for the Catalans' remaining matches when his appeal against conviction for wounding is heard in Sydney.

The former Cronulla Sharks player was last month handed a minimum nine-month jail sentence for wounding his girlfriend but was released on bail pending an appeal.
