Sydney FC officials moved to reassure star import Dwight Yorke that he is still welcome at the A-League champions for the second year of his two-year contract.
The 35-year-old former Manchester United player said the club had given him the option of moving on.
But a club official said there had been a mix-up in communications and Yorke had simply been told he was free to look for another club in the short term to maintain his fitness in the lead-up to the world cup finals in June.
