Young calls Dragons coach to show faith

Utility Dean Young has called on St George Illawarra coach Nathan Brown to keep the same playmakers for Sunday's NRL clash with Parramatta as the Dragons continue to climb out of their early season hole.

Brown had routinely switched his halves, hooker and fullback throughout the opening rounds but Young is adamant the coach should persist with the combination that defeated the Roosters 26-6 almost two weeks ago.

This would mean Young starting at hooker, Brett Morris at fullback with Jamie Soward five-eighth and Ben Hornby halfback.

"I'm sure if we work hard and stick to the same combinations we did against the Roosters and bring that effort then hopefully we can win again," said Young.

"Hopefully Browny sticks with the same seven, six, nine and one combination ... the key to all sides going well is not having too much movement in those areas.

"There's a bit of confidence in the side now.

"It's been one of the toughest months of my short career and that effort and win (over the Roosters) has brought a lot of confidence in this side."

The 14th placed Dragons lost four straight prior to the upset of the Roosters, but as most of those were narrow defeats they maintain a positive points differential and could jump three places on the table with a win over the Eels.

"It's a big game for us, we are still not out of the hole we put ourselves in," said Young.

"We can jump a lot of sides above us because our for and against is quite good.

"If we lose we are going to stay down the bottom but if we play well and bring a good attitude to the game and jag a win we can jump quite a few sides."

Meanwhile several NRL clubs are waiting for results of scans on injuries to players across the weekend.

Tigers prop Todd Payten has concerns over a hamstring injury while Eels winger Eric Grothe was sent for precautionary MRI and CT scans after concussion on Saturday night.

Raiders prop Scott Logan only arrived back from Auckland late Monday and will Tuesday have scans on his knee, but club officials are hopeful he only suffered a cork and not ligament or structural damage.

The NRL match review committee laid no charges on Monday after investigating all the weekend matches.
