Pryce escapes Saints sanction

St Helens and England five-eighth Leon Pryce has escaped any sanction from his club after being convicted of assault for the second time in his career.

Pryce and his former Bradford team-mate Stuart Reardon last week escaped custodial sentences after admitting assault charges.

Reardon, 27, was given a 12-week suspended sentence for assaulting his estranged wife while Pryce was ordered to do 100 hours unpaid work for assaulting Kay Reardon's new partner in the same incident.

In 2003, Pryce was ordered to do 120 hours of community service for hitting a man with a glass in a confrontation in a pub.

In a statement, Saints said Pryce would not be subject to any further action.

"The club has concluded that the sentence of 100 hours community service is in itself sufficient punishment for his crime but have, in any event, also issued Pryce with a formal warning.

"In arriving at their conclusion, the club did take into account that Pryce was open, co-operative and truthful to the club when recounting the matter, has shown genuine remorse for his actions and due recognition of the embarrassment which it has brought upon himself."

The controversy has not adversely affected Pryce, who has scored five tries in four appearances since admitting the offence and is expected to line up against Wigan at Murrayfield on Saturday.

In contrast, Reardon had his contract with Warrington Wolves cancelled as a result of the attack and he has since failed to find another club after failing a medical at Hull.
