Time for the NRL to act GentleManly

Note Gentlemanly not Gentle to Manly

I’m a rarity. A 24 year private school educated female that likes loves Rugby League. I am loyal to it, have stuck with it and my team through thick and thin and will defend it till its (at the moment, inevitable) death.

I have endured endless heated discussions how my chosen sport is full of no brain thugs. I throw back that I would prefer that than some collar up rugby snob. I argue that the professionals are not role models but normal boys who enjoy and deserve to have fun. I argue that trouble finds them not they find trouble. I do not believe any of what I am saying.

I watch League because I love the game, not because I’m a westie, poor or yobbo. After this latest incident, I feel like Simone to Warney, my stamina is running out to defend my boy.

Is the problem that clubs spoil the first graders? Well if we don’t we’ll lose them to Rugby, the Poms, the French or the Japanese.

Does the NRL ban drinking? It won’t work?

Harsher Penalities? What does it take?

Why not trying looking after the guys? Keep them busy, make them get a trade, a uni degree. For the love of god, give them speech etiquette classes. They need to keep busy, they need to keep disciplined, they need to be educated.

That may come across as private school girl of me, however with the AFL pushing in the West of Sydney, we need to win back Union fans. That is as far from happening as Sydney appreciating the A League.

I’m stumped, I’m out of excuses. I’m out of solutions? Ladette to Lady? Anyone???
